I have enjoyed following the tournament via this blog. I do have to wonder, however, why the tournament leading scorer for the girls was not named to the all-tournament team.
Two players had the highest scoring totals, 31 points and they were from the same team.
I can't say why people vote the way they do and I'm not going to get into specifics, I can offer you a general perspective from my years here.
Voters consider more than just points though - rebounds, assists, etc. Also how far their team advanced is very important. In general teams that play in the finals usually have more players on the team, especially since the finals have all been very close games.
When we are just limited to five spots plus two awards, there is always a numbers crunch and some very deserving players just don't get recognized. I wish there were as many spots as were good players but that's just not how it is.
The decisions are never easy or simple. While recognition is always a nice thing, we hope the players' games will stand on their own merits anyway and be something to be proud of.
I read the previous post and the response. I am sure that all of the girls enjoyed playing in such a prestigous event and I am also sure that all of the selected tournament team players were highly qualified. Per the posted stats, however, one had 32 total points (21+11).
Having been at the tournament all three days and seeing all four of the girls games, I have to agree that Kimberly Durham of Apex was done a grave injustice. She took over for the injured Tasler against Wakefield and almost led them to victory, and then was crucial to the win over Smoky Mt.
What a great tournament! The girl’s game is evolving in front of our eyes. All teams were well coached. I agree all the teams played tough, tenacious defense. The only downside was not seeing Smoky Mountain and Apex at full strength. We all hope for speedy recovery. Several girls’ on both teams picked their game up and demonstrated it’s a team game.

I've been a big fan of girls basketball for years and I love watching the things that make the girls game different from the boys game. Congrats to Rolesville on winning the Championship.
BTW, I'm hearing a rumor that the 2004 girls champion, McDowell, may be invited to next years Glaxo. I hear that team is loaded once again with some potential major D1 talent.
Since I'm the one who invites the girls, I'm curious who is passing out rumors :)
We actually invited them this year but they couldn't make it. So I told Coach Silver we'd be happy to have his team play the following year if he felt like they were in a position to do that. So we will see!
I want the field competitive and I don't think we need to go out of state to do that, as was done before me. So I'm hoping to get some more great squads for next year as well. Happy to hear your suggestions if you have them.

Michelle-
Since you mentioned rumors, I also heard through the rumor mill that Alex Bass was influential in selecting teams for Glaxo. Any truth to this rumor?
Any idea of inviting Wake Forest/Rolesville for 2007? All starters should be returning next year.
Alex, I know that has to be you :)
Often we do try to offer the champ a chance to defend their title but honestly, we just got done with this one and I'm not thinking much about 2007 until i finish 2006 stuff.
Nope, Alex is not on here tooting his own horn. So, true or untrue?
About next year's tourney:
I think the fans have seen enough of Apex and Wake Forest - it's time to get in some new blood.
Wakefield will have four starters back, and Athens will have an outstanding senior in Chareya Smith. Garner, Cary, and Southeast also deserve more consideration than Wake Forest.
Amelia Partin for Top 6th Man!
The rivalry is for real now and we should just sit back and enjoy the rest of this season.....
Coach Kennedy is a classy guy.
BTW,
Some people take the internet way too seriously.....
Tiger-
Haven't seen you on ncpreps lately. What gives? Coach Blackburn ask you to stop embarrasing her program?
I am WAAAYYY too Sexy for that board!
Go Wolverines!
-PS
Alex Bass is a P.I.M.P.
To be honest with you, Coach Blackburn wasn't embarrassed at all.
She just laughed at me and told me I was crazy.
I have never denied this fact.
Go Wolverines!
PS-
Did I mention Alex Bass is a P.I.M.P.?
The 2007 tournament was a great success thus far. I enjoyed watching the girl teams play. However I do wonder has anyone taken a look at Broughton Girls
Basketball lately. B. Morris, S. Solomon, and J. Mitchell a group of underclassman carrying the team. I think they should go under the radar for an invitation for 2008.
